Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical technique to remove excess fat located between the skin and muscle. Localized accumulations of fat, which are often hereditary and resistant to diet and exercise, can now be permanently removed via this procedure. Click here to view our gallery of before and after photos.

At Acadia Women’s Health we use Tumescent anesthesia, a form of local anesthesia, to perform breast augmentations, liposuction and mini tummy tucks minimizing your recovery and making the procedure more affordable. Performing liposuction in this manner is considered the safest way to remove large amounts of fat with virtually no blood loss. Not only has the Tumescent technique proven to be safer than the standard technique using general anesthesia, but it also has proven to be less painful, has minimal post operative recovery time and produces optimal cosmetic results.

Liposuction involves inserting small stainless steel tube through tiny skin incisions and connecting it to a suction pump. The pump assists the doctor in removing the fat by creating tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. After surgery, these tiny tunnels collapse resulting in an improved body contour.

“Tummy Tuck”- abdominoplasty

There are many different ways to perform a tummy tuck. A Brazilian Tummy Tuck involves performing liposuction followed by removing just the skin of the lower abdomen. A mini-tummy tuck is when a small area of skin and fat of the lower abdomen is removed and the muscles of the lower abdominal wall are brought closer together. A mini-tummy tuck results in an incision in the lower abdomen just above the pubic area about the size of a typical c-section scar. A traditional abdominoplasty or tummy tuck procedure involves removing all the skin between the navel and the pubic area from hip to hip. The muscles of the upper and lower abdominal wall are then tightened resulting in a flat abdomen. Click here to view our gallery of before and after photos.

F.A.Q.

1] What areas can be treated by liposuction at Acadia Women’s Health?
The most common areas are the abdomen, inner and outer thighs. However, the upper arm, back hips and male love handles also respond really well to liposuction.
2] Does the fat come back?
Those fat cells that are removed never come back. As long as the patient’s weight remains the same, the results are permanent.
3] What is the difference between an abdominoplasty or “Tummy Tuck” and liposuction?
A tummy tuck involves surgically removing the loose skin and fat rather than just aspirating out the fat. For most patients, liposuction yields satisfactory results. But both procedures are performed by Dr. Gonzalez and he can advise you on which he thinks will yield the best results for you.
4] How old do I have to be?
A woman must be at least 18 years of age to have liposuction.
5] What are some of the risks?
Infection, pain, bleeding, hematoma, asymmetry, seromas and skin contour irregularities.
6] Who are not candidates for liposuction with Acadia Women’s Health?
• Women who are pregnant or nursing.
• Patients with diabetes other serious health conditions.
• Patients with unrealistic expections
7] When can I go back to work after having surgery?
Most patients return to work 3-4 days after their surgery.
8] Does your office offer payment plans?
We work closely with Care Credit to offer patient financing. To see if you qualify apply at www.carecredit.com
